Easy Baby "Onesie" Cards

These cards are so fun and easy to make! Besides, I am in great need of baby cards...there are babies popping up everywhere right now! I quickly grabbed some patterned paper, stickers and my circle and scallop punch and made 12 of these today. Special thanks to Lauren Meeder for this design idea. I have to apologize for my photo quality...my color and lighting are both off today...grrr.

Go run and grab some white card stock for the base of your card...you will need to cut your card stock in half to make two 4 1/4" x 11" strips. Fold those in half so that their finished size is now 4 1/4" x 5.5". Below I took some photos to show you how to cut the scallops and also how to measure and cut the card into a onesie. Enjoy!

Select your patterened paper (I use K&Co, Basic Grey and SEI)

These are the stickers I used along w/ the patterned paper I selected.

Use your 1 3/8" circle punch and punch the top along the fold and the 2 bottom corners.

From the top fold, measure down 1 1/2" and cut inward 1/2" from the side. Connect the bottom right corner to the inside of the sleeve. Repeat for both sides.

Using a 1 3/8" circle punch. Punch a half circle through patterned paper

Place your scallop punch over the circle you just punched.

This is the scallop that will fit on the neck and also the corner of the card...so cute!

Preserving Christmas Memories

Christmas....seriously? I realize it's March, I know, I know, Christmas stuff should be put away by now! I've had this particular project sitting next to my desk for quite some time now (2 years to be exact).

My family loves getting cards, letters and pictures over Christmas and New Years from both family and friends. There are so many wonderful stories and memories that it just wouldn't be right to throw them away. I used to create scrapbook pages for all my pictures and letters, but that filled up fast...and not to mention... took a lot more time and effort to create. Now I just simply punch and bind these treasures into mini-books by year.

Both books were bound using the Zutter binding system. The cover and back of the book are made with heavyweight chipboard that I covered with patterned paper, stickers and die cuts. This is so easy and extremely affordable and note, we only keep letters and pictures unless the cards are homemade (hint hint). We enjoy looking back at years past....oh how quickly the years go by!

Maybe this project will inspire you to create a book of something special and dear to your heart!

Candy Airplanes

Candy Airplane - Ingredients: 2 sticks of gum, 2 life savers, 1 smartie, 1 sillyband

Over Christmas the boys really wanted to give something to their classmates at school. I remember when I was younger, we gave a variety of things like: Jumbo Candy Canes, Lollipop Reindeer, Candy Cane Reindeer, Candy Trains, etc. I started looking for any "NEW" candy type projects online and stumbled upon these. Aren't they the COOLEST! I know, I should have posted this earlier, but just thought it's a GREAT idea not only as an inexpensive gift for the holidays, but also for a birthday or other celebration. ...they were so much fun for us to create and not to mention EASY and extremely KID FRIENDLY!

This is how we packaged the planes....I'm not gonna lie, I LOVE cello bags! Add a beautiful topper to any cello bag filled with goodies and you've created a beautiful and simple masterpiece!

Homemade Valentine Boxes

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
I thought I would share a little creative fun we had at our house this past weekend! The boys got together and dreamed up their perfect valentine box. In the true spirit of the holiday, they built their valentine boxes out of a standard shoe box. Although I helped cut some of the cardboard, tape the paper to the box and cut the holes for the valentines to fit into, the boys did ALL the rest! These boxes are constructed with a lot of love and creativity, a shoebox, cardboard, tape, construction paper, acrylic paint, markers and stickers. Enjoy.

Observations - A journal to treasure

As I've grown I realize the importance of time, and the importance of recording treasured moments.

I started my "Observation Journals" for both my boys after having the sudden realization that my beautiful stepdaughter went from being this young, vibrant 10 year old little girl to a now grown adult, full of wisdom and experience living on her own. There are so many things I thought I would remember only to find I've simply forgotten. If only I had kept a journal back then.

I write freely in these journals, there is no rhyme or reason to the order of the pages, but each book contains thoughts, insight, memories, feelings, funny stories, emotional moments and some pages even have pictures or scrapbook embellishments. I record things as simple as how words were enunciated, or statements the boys made, accomplishments and milestones. I know when they are older, these will be cherished. I love the size of the books, their small and portable. I keep them right next to my desk where they are very accessible. I write in them as often as I remember.

This is a great tool whether or not you have time to scrapbook. I personally don't always have time to make a scrapbook pages but I do have time to jot down some notes.

Time does not stand still. Nor does it discriminate or play favorites. It's the same for each and every one of us...each moment ticks away, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day and year by year.

Dust off those cobwebs

Wow, where has all the time gone (again). Apparently I've lacked a good dose of discipline to blog. I've stayed so busy since my last post and I'd love to share some of the things I've been working on throughout the months. Time to dust off those cobwebs and get to some blogging! Monster Cookies

Aren't these cookies hilarious! I recently made 2 dozen of these for a bake sale that was put on by my nephew's baseball team. A little premade cookie dough, some frosting and m&m's turned these cookies into a monstrous hit! I found out later our best customers were the kids on the team...too funny!

Morri's First Year - Premade Scrapbook

I created this simple yet meaningful book for a client who was attending a birthday party and wanted to honor the 1st year of this little peanut's life, isn't she adorable! It's amazing all the "firsts" babies go through as you'll notice on all the pages.

The client requested I use bright, vibrant colors similiar to those featured on her birthday invitation. I matched the DCWV designer papers with some sassy sayings from Karen Foster Designs, added dimension to each page with pop ups and a little more style by attaching real buttons and fibers to the cover. The finished piece is very cheery, uplifting and colorful, it's sure to brings a smile to anyone's face.

I have to admit, the one thing I truly loved about this project is the color palette my client chose for this little 1 year old. Baby books don't always have to be Pink and Blue. Hope you enjoy!

Cleaning Up

Custom Order for a special friend

This past weekend I created 4 Scrapbooks for a good friend Mary Beth so she could give these as gifts to her Godchildren and family. How sweet is that! FUN PHRASE FRIDAY - 3-dimensional Flower Card with instructions

Welcome to another week of FUN PHRASE FRIDAY! Today I chose to feature a card using the "Best Yet" stamp set from Stampin' Up! along with a do it yourself 3-dimensional rose. Want to learn more about this cool flower...read on =)

Instructions for 3-dimensional Flower

STEP 1: Grab any large flower punch or even scallop circle punch and double sided pattern paper.

STEP 2: Punch 8 flowers from the same punch

STEP 3: Crumple all 8 punched out flowers into tiny pieces

STEP 4: Unwrap all 8 punched out flowers

STEP 5: Stack your flowers on top of each other, alternating the front and back sides of the paper. Pierce a hole in the center of all your flowers with a paper piercing tool.

STEP 6: Insert a brad in the hole and fold the brad prongs on the backside of your flower stack - although this is a thick stack, there is enough room to secure it.

STEP 7: Begin folding each flower towards the center of the brad as tight as you can

STEP 8: Keep folding all those petals in towards the center. You're almost done, it's looking amazing isn't it!

STEP 9: Once you've folded all the petals into the center, start unfolding some petals starting from the bottom of your stack of petals...it will really look nice. Try different types of patterened papers - I think the patterened papers tend to look the best and give a very dramatic appeal!

Isn't this little turtle the cutest? This was a card I made a few years ago and I found him in a box of other samples today...just in time for St. Patrick's Day. This is a Stampin' Up! stamp from the set "On The Move". The actual stamp has a sentiment that reads "Good Luck". I couldn't resist altering it a little and adding Happy St. Patrick's Day. I sent this to my mother-in-law with some photos of the boys...it was perfect for her since she recently found out she is part Irish...I think she will love it!

The NAKED swap

Ok, this is definitely a first for me, but with a swap titled "The Naked Swap" my curiosity forced me to read the details which read:

"Naked mail means you send something without it being in a box, envelope or mailing bag. The USPS will aim to get it to you if you have an address label. In the past, I've received a teapot (that I still use!), a package of decorative brads and a three-gallon bucket (yes, a bucket!) through naked mail swaps. And I've sent everything from a Frisbee and flip-flops to a dustpan. The counter clerks at my post office always get a kick out of what goes out and what comes back. So look at your partner's profile to see what may be of interest to your partner. Then select and mail a naked item. This is an item, not a naked postcard."

Isn't this the funniest thing you've ever heard? I decided to sign up and got my swap partner who sounds like a really fun gal. She used to live in Hawaii, is pursuing her career as a pilot, and misses the beach terribly. I've decided to send what I like to refer to as "Hawaii in a box". I was cracking up with these glasses, don't you just love the flair! I would've sent her a cocktail if I could, but I'm sure USPS would not have thought that was cool. Anyhow, here are the photos of the items (cocktail umbrellas, airplaine, beach ball, sea shells, sunglasses with flair, lei and a card)...it was shipped out yesterday as is. I hope it arrives safely! (PS I need to have my eyes checked, read the words on the inside of the box...seriously I'm an idiot and goofed on my sticker arrangement for the words "flip flops" so it reads flops! flip) Duh!

Every Cloud has Angels in it

I've got quite a list of cards to make this weekend, and this was first on my list. Sadly, our dear friend unexpectedly lost her father - such a sad, and very tragic moment for her. Sometimes it's so hard to find the good when we've lost a loved one, but we know she was blessed to give her father a final goodbye and be with him, as well as, her entire family as he passed. Losing a parent is extremely difficult no matter how young or old you are, we struggled with this in my own family after losing my father-in-law.

Kudos to whoever started these wonderful sayings inspired by kids at Inkadinkado. I love this saying, it's simple, yet thought provoking. Wouldn't we all be comforted knowing there are angels within every cloud?

Being a dog person, this sentiment stamp just cracked me up! Dogs are perculiar about who they like and who they don't, I know mine is. I just LOVE this Hero Arts doggie stamp...he was stamped with black stazon on caramel colored patterned paper and then colored in with an aqua painter and some chocolate chip ink for more dimension. =) I handcut the circles for the sentiment just because...I really like the "freestyle" look that you can get with a simple pair of scissors...give it a try! Good thing we don't meet people the way dogs do...you know what I mean!

We've decided to enter Blaze in the Bissell Pet Photo Contest. Be a fan and vote for Blaze too!

We adopted our four legged family member from the shelter January 2009. He has been a blessing to our family, we always wonder why he ended up there- our good fortune I suppose. Blaze is so happy no matter what we do, as long as he is with us. Blaze loves to hang with me (he especially loves to nap under my desk in my craft room.) He's a toy freak...loves to play frisbee, catch the ball or with his new alligator squeaky toy! When we first brought Blaze home, we initially thought he was a black lab maybe mixed border collie, we just couldn't put our finger on it though...and then we had the genetic test done...uhm...wow the results were shocking: 25% Lab, 25% Boxer, 12.5% Dalmation, 12.5% Akita and 25% unknown. He's quite the funny guy, looks like a lab, always doing funny things with his feet (boxer), energy like you would not believe (dalmation) and guards the house (akita). He's a pretty cool dude...thanks for voting for Blaze!

Special Little Memories minibook - Complete

Here is a glimpse of the book I made devoted to our old house in WA. I'm really happy that I did this book, even the boys enjoy looking at the pictures of where we used to live and the things we enjoyed while we were there. Remember, it's not just the house, it's the memories that go with it. Enjoy.

I kept this book very simple...a few pictures on each page of what I love, and some notes to share.

After making this book, I wish I had one from my childhood home - I'm going to see if my mom can help me gather some photos so we can put one together. Hope this inspires you to create your own book of where you have lived and the memories you've created.

On a "Bento Box" kick

I'm hooked on the Bento Box concept. My neighbor Emily, who is my original inspiration for assembling bento boxes, possesses super human mom powers, seriously, she makes her kids the most amazing lunches by packing it the "Bento" way!

I loved the concept and soon began packing my own version of a Bento Box for my boys because I wanted to provide them more variety,  healthier choices and offer greater convenience. It takes no more time than what I was doing before and actually saves me money, I'll explain.

CONVENIENT
Opening up one container with everything ready to consume is extremely convenient! Have you ever had lunch at school with your child? My oldest son has 20 minutes from the time he sits down to open his lunchbox, get every compartment, bag and container opened and devoured. I sat for the first 5 minutes helping all his friends open milk containers, go-gurt packs, fruit cups, chip bags, juice boxes, cheese sticks and anything else their little hands couldn't open themselves.   By the time I was halfway through my salad, they were lining up ready to play outside...wow!

HEALTHY CHOICES
My kids actually do love fruits and veggies, but this was profound...just by simply having the items ready to consume (no bags to mess with) they were more apt to eat everything I packed. I always throw in items that I know they will love (my little one loves tomatoes...crazy, huh!)

VARIETY
My kids love to nibble on lots of things and not necessarily on the same item.  I've been able to open up their food choices by giving them a broader variety. By not putting a whole bag of chips or crackers that might have previously filled them up, they will eat all the little veggies, fruits and even get a special snack along with their main course.

CONTAINERS
We don't live close to an asian market so instead I found this little Sterilite container at Target and although it may appear to look small, this little guy can pack a perfect amount of food for lunch! It measures 4 x 6 inches and approx 1 3/4" tall inside. I like this particular box because it is so simple to open - all four sides have a snap that little hands can flip open with ease.   I found a drink cup that was small, easy to open, without a screw top and leak resistant (I know, if there is such a thing, but this one does work well). I purchased this little gem at Target too (in the sporting goods section).

CREATIVE
Simply Cutting up some of the foods in different shapes or using cookie cutters, adding decorative toothpicks, special utensils or cups just adds to the fun! I usually cut the boys sandwiches with either the Mickey Mouse or Flower cookie cutters. Yes, I do have boys and they do get flower sandwiches sometimes. I'm just not sure that a lightsaber cookie cutter would yield much of a sandwich after it was used. *grin* I also use different things from my kitchen to separate some of the food when it's in the container. I'll use an assortment of items like mini, medium and large baking cups, doilies, waxed paper, bento dividers and even other plastic cups. Thank you Emily again for some very fun food decorations!

PACKING

The best advice I can give, is make sure you are using all the space in your box. When things start to move around, it can get a little ugly inside and food can start to mix together and the last thing you need is something soggy. I try and pack items tight and fill in all the gaps. I do usually put my napkin inside along with any utensils.

FOOD CHOICES

We have been really getting creative with our lunch choices. It's not just a turkey and cheese sandwich anymore. We've been trying different types of sandwiches, sometimes no sandwich at all, the other day I made pumpkin muffins and the boys wanted those for lunch along with fruit and yogurt. We do leftovers, pasta seems to be a favorite. Anything that will tuck nicely in the box and doesn't need to be heated up is a great choice. My kids don't seem to mind room temperature foods, although most times we've got a freezer pack keeping things cool.

SAVE MONEY, SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT!

Save yourself money and consider purchasing the bulk conterpart to the items that you might normally have purchased that are packed for individual consumption. Not only will you save money, your also saving the environment because now your producing less waste! Hooray! Assemble your food smart and you won't need separate bags!

My New Toy!

Ok, I have to admit, it's been a really LONG time since I got a new toy for myself! I know, I know, I can hear it now, "you're always getting new stuff"... getting papers, stickers, ribbons, etc,is like going to the store for eggs, milk and bread! This new toy is very special to my collection and I'm so excited to get started! I got the Bamboo Craft Tablet & Pen for my birthday and can't wait to use it. This will allow me a lot more flexibility to translate what I do on paper, onto my computer. Hopefully there is not too much of a learning curve =)

I wanted to give this card a clean, freestyle look, one that gave off a little energy. I chose this zany paper by basicgrey's lime rickey collection which to me screamed "I've just had my coffee and now I could rule the world" I upgraded the penguin's cup and cut out the setiment by hand (no punches used).

What's in a name?

As I was doodling some ideas today, I thought I would share a little note as to where the name "TheDoodleSpot" originated.

To me, a name is very important, we tend to put a lot of thought into a name. I remember in my Jr High Spanish class we each got to give ourselves a Spanish name. My friend Rich chose "Picante". Hilarious, to this day, his name is the only one I can remember! I also remember the task of naming our children. Thinking of names that we liked, names that possessed good meaning, that couldn't be shortened (unless we wanted them to be) that other kids wouldn't make fun of and names that didn't have initials that created words like "RAT". Yes, we thought of it all!

So with all of this in mind, creating the name for my blog was an important, thought provoking, personal mission. I looked up other names; quite a few to be honest that I thought were sooo creative only to find them taken. As I was doodling (something I do regularly) it came to me - TheDoodleSpot. It was a name without boundaries, and one that reflected who I am, one that I am proud to say is my own. It's time for me to get busy and complete some unfinished work. I admit it, I'm guilty for starting and then storing some of my projects to work on new things. This was a minibook I created to remember our old house back in WA. I love the idea of creating an album that honors not only where you lived but the memories that went with it. I'm happy we took some pictures that we can add to this book that will help our boys remember our old home.

I raved about this paper pack yesterday, but after using many of the pieces I can't say enough good about it! I think my husband will love his Valentines Day card this year. I kept his card pretty simple using some grand adhesions, pop dots, patterned paper and die cut shapes. I printed out one of my favorite photos to use as the focal point. For the boys cards, I added some hand stitching using Stampin' Up! linen thread and used stitching templates from both Stampin' Up! mat pack and In Stitch'z by Bazill. For my photos, I adjusted the color hue and saturation to give them a softer more vintage look. The "Key to my heart" card features an acrylic overlay that is just magnificent! Yes, I'm a HUGE fan of K&Company - I have to admit, their collections of paper, stickers, layered accents, embellishments, border strips, ephemera, alphabets, fibers, ribbons and not to mention fabric swatches are simply amazing! Just when I think they couldn't possibly get any better...out comes a new release just to prove they really know how to outdo themselves! Look at this gorgeous collection called "Handmade"! I'm going to be working on some valentines this evening for my boys using this collection.

Dragon Matchbox

This is my finished project for my matchbox swap through swap-bot. (My boys thought it was pretty cool). I had read that my swap partner liked dragons so I pulled out this dragon-themed sticker pack from Karen Foster called "My Brave Knight". Inside, I added another tiny dragon sticker tucked away on the bottom of the box (see images below). I then filled the box with a skull and crossbones stamp and inkpad (she likes those too). We don't have to fill the matchbox with anything, but I thought she would like this too (another tip from her profile). This little dragon will be off on a wonderful journey tomorrow as it's being shipped all the way to Denmark, what an adventure!

To create the matchbox, I used my Sizzix Die Cut Machine and the Bigz XL Matchbox die. The patterned paper I used was from Prima Marketing called "Rock Out Boy" and it coordinates so nicely! The green actually has a pattern like scales from a serpant (click on the picture to enlarge to see this better).

As true with the dragons, at least those the boys and I have read about, they are usually guarding their treasure, so I had to add some gems...(rhinestones) *wink*. I also dressed up the dragon and the flag with some glitter (stickles "star dust" to be exact - my favorite product ever!). Who doesn't love glitter...I know, there are a few of you out there.

TIP: here's a trick I use to get my stickers to look more 3-dimensional. BABY POWDER. Yes, rub the sticky part of your sticker in a tray filled with baby powder and it will neutralize the sticker...remove any excess baby powder and then add your pop dot to make it really pop off the page...simple.

Friends Forever Card

Ok, I have to admit, I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE earth tones (chocolate browns, olive green, turquoise, deep reds) and this paper pack is full of the colors that make me so happy! This super simple card features K&Company's "Wild Saffron" cardstock collection, as well as a nice chipboard element (popped up for dimension). I added some satin, blue ribbon with a little flair and stitching to finish the piece. This card is going to find a nice home back in WA to one of my good friends. Hope she loves it!

Diorama Tutorial

Paper
• 1 - Main Body Cardstock 8.5 x 11”
• 1 – Inside Body Cardstock 4.5 x 7.5”
• Additional Cardstock for Stamped Images

Accessories
• Ribbons, brads, rhinestones, glitter, buttons…the sky is the limit *grin*
• Stamps, die cuts, stickers, patterned paper

Supplies Needed
• Adhesive (mono adhesive recommended)
• Scoring blade
• Paper cutter
• Circle Cutter (creative memories, coluzzle, EK success…whatever you have on hand)
• Scissors
• Pop Dots or dimensional

Instructions
1. Score 1 ½” from each edge of the 11” side of the cardstock. Next score 4 ½” and 6 ½” of the 8 ½” side of the cardstock. (as pictured)

2. Cut along score lines as indicated in picture

3. Cut a shape out of one side of your box. Be sure to center your cut out between all score lines and the top of the box.

4. Score 1” from edge of the 4.5” sides of the cardstock. Cut a circle on the inside body being sure to center that cutout on all 4-sides. (note: I used white cardstock so it was easier to share with you all the different pieces, but you can stick with the same color as your main body)

5. Ok, READ THIS: before you go onto the next steps and start glueing away, take this time to decorate - it's so much easier!! I usually cut out all my stamped images, do all my stamping on the box itself, on the inside attach all the pieces where they need to go, etc etc. Sorry I don't have this photographed, but that would actually require me to make another diorama box and I'm rushing to get this posted.

6. Ok, now that your box is almost complete, go ahead and start adding your adhesive. Add adhesive to 4.5" sides between the score lines of the inside body and the outer edge of cardstock as pictured below.

7. Add adhesive to the middle tabs of the main body (on the bottom side - see picture). Also, add adhesive to the very edges of the top side of the box that has the die cut circle.

8. Wahlah! Your box should be fully decorated at this point! Great job, you should be proud of yourself! I hope my tutorial helped you with this very fun diorama box. You can even create a lid that covers the opening on the top, although it does not allow much light on the inside making it harder to see....I chose not to make one for this. email me if you want the lid instructions and I can help you with that.

This evening, I had a little peace and quiet in my office after the kids went to bed and while Stacy was watching tv. I chose to create this charming little diorama. I had to put this new Hero Arts stamp set (Happy Day Animals) to good use. This is seriously adorable! I've made dioramas in the past, but this one by far is so easy and just a joy to create. I will be posting step by step directions on this style, so you can create a diorama for yourself! I'd love to see pictures of what you create too, please share =)

Swap-Bot - Big Fat Stuffed Envelope Swap

Last week, while mindlessly surfing the web, I found this very cool website called

swap-bot- it's an online website that allows you to set up and participate in swaps with other people around the world. You get a log-in, fill out your profile which is just basic information about yourself to help your swapping partners know you better and then you can sign up for various swaps. I have signed up for 3 swaps so far, "Big Fat Stuffed Envelopes", "February Love Matchbox Swap" and "Promote your Business Swap".

I just got done sending my first swap out (photo above). I filled a large envelope with patterned paper by American Crafts, a handmade yellow chipboard scrapbook, ribbons, brads, eyelets, clips, buttons, plastic alphabet, a vintage magnet, valentines day candy, yellow spool of wire, 1 pack of rock & roll stickers and 1 pack of rub-ons. I also included a sunflower charm which was on her list of her favorites. I'm happy these goodies are going to a good home.

Yesterday I went to the craft store to purchase some stickers and paper for my boys Valentine boxes and I came across the most adorable Bo Bunny "Love Bandit/LoveUDeerly" collection! I had to have it! I bought some papers, stickers and cardstock sheets and quickly assembled these 2 albums. The whimsical little forest friends are so adorable! They have little raccoons, squirrels, birds, deer and even bugs and the sentiments are so sweet. I've added some stitching on many of the inside pages, popped up stickers and other elements for a 3 dimensional feel. The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

I have fond memories as a young girl helping my mom in the kitchen. I especially loved baking, something I'm proud to say, has been passed on to my two boys who love helping me in the kitchen!

My family raves about this chocolate chip cookie recipe, the cookies are crispy on the outside, yet soft and chewy on the inside. They have a rich nutty flavor which is the secret to this yummy goodness! I hope you enjoy this recipe as we do. Please read all the instructions before you start...also, I have high altitude notes at the end for my CO friends.

Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies, from Cooks Illustrated

1 3/4 cups (8 3/4 ounces) unbleached all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
14 tablespoons (1 3/4 sticks) unsalted butter (*don't use a non-stick skillet to brown the butter.)
1/2 cup (3 1/2 ounces) granulated sugar
3/4 cup (5 1/4 ounces) packed dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon sea salt (or table salt)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
1 1/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips or chunks (guittard or ghiradelli preferred)
3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted (optional)

1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat to 375 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Whisk flour and baking soda together in medium bowl; set aside.

2. Heat 10 tablespoons butter in 10-inch skillet over medium high heat until melted, about 2 minutes. continue cooking, swirling pan constantly until butter is dark golden brown and has a nutty aroma, 1-3 minutes. Remove skilled from heat and, using heatproof spatula, transfer browned butter to large heatproof bowl. Stir remaining 4 tablespoons butter into hot butter and until completely melted.

3. Add both sugars, salt, and vanilla to bowl with butter and whisk until fully incorporated Add egg and yolk and whisk until mixture is smooth with no sugar lumps remaining, about 30 seconds. Let mixture stand 3 minutes, then whisk for 30 seconds. Repeat process of resting and whisking 2 more times until mixture is thick, smooth, and shiny. Using rubber spatula or wooden spoon, stir in flour mixture until just combined, about 1 minute. Stir in chocolate chips.

4. Scoop dough (about 3tbsp) onto cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake cookies until they are golden brown and still puffy, and edges have begun to set but centers are still soft, 10-14 minutes. Transfer baking sheet to wire rack.

***High Altitude Notes: add 1 tablespoon flour, increase baking soda to 1 tsp, reduce granulated sugar by 1 tsp.

Oh Valentines Day, time to remember those we love. I don't know if we really should have a special day...I mean honestly, shouldn't every day be special? Well, this time of year brings back happy memories and a little tradition my husband and I started when we first met. For Valentines Day, we didn't buy any cards, or gifts, and we didn't go out to eat. Instead, we had our very own homemade tradition right at home. This has been so much fun over the years! We always make dinner together, we make our own cards and some years our own gifts. Ok, maybe a little unfair for my husband, but really it's been a great time to reconnect and put our hearts in the right place. This year, we're going to have the boys help us decide what's for dinner and have them help us make it. They love to cook so this will be easy. Speaking of cooking...I promise to post the best chocolate chip cookie recipe I've found. It's so yummy!

**Update - I just uploaded a better picture** I have to confess, the picture quality is very poor in this photo since it appears to take on a yellow sheen...it is rather pink and rose in real life. You see, the other day I accidentally pushed my Nikon off the table which was fitted with my husbands flash. Both camera and flash survived, however the part on my camera that holds the external flash ripped off and stayed attached to the flash. (yes, I had to confess this incident to my hubby and do you know what he did...he offered me his camera. I love that man!)

Last night, my husband and I decided to get really crazy...we stayed up really late...yes, past 10pm (grin), I know...sad.

While he was on his computer, I sat comfortably in my craft room looking at an old calendar I had scrapbooked when I spotted a picture of dad on a Harley. No he doesn't actually have a Harley, honestly, I'm not even sure if he knows how to ride one, but it was a pretty fantastic picture!

Thinking of that picture inspired me to create a book dedicated to "Old Guys" in our lives. Don't get me wrong, my dad isn't old, just refined (your welcome dad). Anyhow, this scrapbook is hilarious! I'm putting 2 of these out on my etsy site for sale if you are interested. The captions inside are great! I think my favorite is "The Older I get, The Better I Was".

Glitz Pack, paper pack and my "Family" Album

I was web-surfing one day and saw this really cool accordion album on someone's blog (I'm sorry I can't give this person credit...what a cool idea they had!). I decided I had to make an album similar to the one I'd seen. I pulled out this very cool "Hey Dude" total boy, paper pack and created a "Family" album as you'll see in my next few posts. I had so much fun making this album. I have the pictures in the order that the album is opened...some pages flip up, others flip right and left. I also put pictures on the backside of the album to maximize the amount of space I had to place my pictures. I've decided, although there was some serious "cool factor" in this album with all it's interactive parts, I decided that next time I will only have the album flip open left and right (not up and down)...easier for others to enjoy and it will sit nicely wide open on your desktop, counter or wherever you decided to place this.

My New "Blog Banner" and things to come

Woo Hoo! I've been wanting a Blog Banner since, well, since I started this Blog! I won't say how many attempts I made at creating my own banner, but I'm certainly happy I finally finished one I liked. I decided to just add some pictures of items I've created, add my title and call it good....so I'm happy to unveil the new banner, hope you like it (grin).

So for the last 2 days I have been working non-stop in my craft room photographing, cataloging and listing some of the items I've recently made, and preparing them for their first debut in my online store! Yes, I'm so jazzed to announce I've joined the online group of sellers and will soon have a store of my own! I'm not giving any details quite yet, so be patient. Dad has to help me with shipping/handling for my items and then I should be ready to go - hopefully by tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Getting Sick...

It's an awful feeling when you wake up and notice that little tickle in the back of your throat. Not the funny ha ha tickle either....the, something is about to wreak havoc in my body tickle. I really do dislike getting sick, being sick, or seeing my boys sick (of course not to mention cleaning up after the boys when they are sick) ....unfortunately, I am the first to start getting some nasty cold. I felt it this morning when I woke up and it's been progressively getting worse. We were supposed to go to parade of lights today and sadly, we will just have to wait another year (not to mention the high tonight was like 8 degrees or some craziness like that! As soon as I'm up and running, I'd love to share a few pics of some of the fun and festive ideas we've been creating at our house lately. Be well friends!

As a parent, we all have that one photo that just makes your heart melt...this would be that photo for me! I love this little guy. Not sure where the time has gone! I used my cricut to cut out the word "My" and used some chipboard letters for the word "Boy" that I purchased at Target of all places! I found an old vintage heart button and some twine. Love, love, love the paper...so charming!

My "Brown Eyed" boys never had a chance of having green eyes like me. They are gorgeous! I chose to do a little play on the word "Brown" by using some leftover green letters. I just love this pic of my boys. i had a lot of fun combining a lot of different elements and a nice journaling tag in this brown paper envelope. I accessorized by using buttons, a star punch, brads and a nice scalloped edge to the blue background.

K&Co Mini Book of Boys

I created this mini book some time last year (it's been a while) and it was a nice way to honor my family in a nice small format that I could tuck away in my purse (my husband doesn't mind taking this with him too)! I absolutely love the papers, stickers and other embellishments from K&CO...they are perfect! It's such a fun, eclectic use of patterns and color and it seemed to pair beautifully with the photos I chose! After I took these photos, I decided I didn't like the way you really had to hold the book open with both hands, so I made my book a little more durable and easy to view by binding it with a nice large white coil. Wahlah! That did the trick, now you can lay the book flat without holding it open! I love crafting technology! (smile).

Stampin' Up! Artisan Winning Entry 2007

I was very fortunate to be one of 10 winners for the 2007 SU! Artisan Contest. It's taken me over a year to post this to my site. Each participant was to include 3 Scrapbook pages, 5 cards and 2 3-Dimensional items. These were the items I submitted. All items use strictly SU! All products unless otherwise noted:

3-D Items

3-D item 1 "Flower Pot & Mini Scrapbook"
One special additions to my 3-D flower pot was to add a flower that was actually a surprise mini-book. I remember learning how to make this minibook when I was at the Creating Keepsakes Convention just a few months earlier. I believe I had 6 petals with pictures. After a little trial and error, I was able to get the book to hold together nicely.

3-D item 2 "Tunnel Album"
This album is one of my favorites to make. Not only does it fold down to the exact size of a card 4 1/4" x 5 1/2 but it just looks amazing when you can peer through the little holes and look at the pictures inside. there is a lot of texture, style and dimension going on! (Not to mention 5 kids who had a blast at the Kangaroo Farm)

I can't take credit for this super cool scrapbook idea since I found the directions on how to put the papers together somewhere online, I wish I knew who inspired me to create my own tunnel album....because I would thank her up and down! It takes 3 sheets of cardstock, some designer paper, stickers, embellishments and a little creativity to create these 3D scrapbooks. These books accordian out from a 4x6 starting size and you can fit 5 pictures easily. The little shadowboxes really set off the scene for whatever you are trying to feature. Last year one of my Artisan entires for Stampin' Up was a tunnel album and it was a huge hit. This has to be one of my favorite lines of paper from K&Co - Tim Coffee. Tim's designs are unique, colorful and they really capture the holiday spirit well!

What do you do with those left over gift card holders? Well, instead of throwing them away, go green and recycle!! I love to create these super fun accordian scrapbooks. You need 8.5x11 CS and some designer paper and embellishments and some really strong adhesive. I tend to use Sticky Strip...love that stuff! It works great on just about any medium.

This too is some of my favorite paper!!!! Love it love it love it! K&Co's Urban Rhapsody is so awesome...it's got this real nostalgic feel to it...lots of cool sayings, symbols and great muted colors that work well no matter what color palette you feel like mixing it with! I've used some chipboard 3D elements as well as some Stampin' Up! mini library clips...I love those things, seriously, they are so great! (But their gone for now...they used to be in the holiday mini)

I love it when I can create a page in no time...like this one. I had some extra tags that I had made just waiting to be used and buttons that I bought a million years ago. My husband and I were both downstairs at the dining room when this page unfolded and it took like 2 minutes tops...seriously and it shows...nothing flashy, just a quick page to remember the moment. Don't get all caught up in your underwear about how perfect your pages should be...just getem done! I sure did and my husband was cracking up over it. I bought this patterned paper at HIP 2B SQUARE and can't for the life of me remember who makes it...I think it's Scenic Route, but then again maybe it was Crate Paper, either way, I'm loving this paper. There is something about rust/orange and olive green that I just can't get enough of!

This was one of my favorite finds at the CKU convention in Portland recently. The designer paper and punch outs are by Daisy D's and I have no idea the actual name, but it was a super cute pack! I actually made 3 layouts out of this kit and was so highly impressed with myself after the disappointment of only finding that the kit had 1 double sided sheet of paper and a sheet of punchouts.

I'm realizing that I have a lot of favorites...including this awesome paper pack by K&CO called Mira. OMG it's gorgeous and colorful and there are all these really super cool swirls and shiny things and and and....I could go on forever...oh, but I almost forgot you can get it at Michaels of all places. This spread was a lot of fun to do. I totally love journaling via my computer even though it's so important to have your own handwriting to cherish too. I have a cute little butterfly on the top right of this page that is actually 3D, but it's hard to tell w/ this photo...trust me, it's cute...the wings pop right off the page and only the body is attached. I did use Garden Whimsy by Stampin' Up! for the butterfly trail...love that set...it's underutilized right now along with many of my stamps. I'll get there.

I just fell in love with this set called "Time for You" out of the mini Occassions catalog. It's very cute, has a chair, a clock and a bicycle (which is the real motivation behind buying it). I kept the card very simple by wheeling a city background and popping up the main image.

Stampin' Up! has these chipboard clipboards that are really cool. This was an altered clipboard I did using Le Jardin DP. it's slightly tricky to get your paper lined up around the actual clip mechanism, but the result once you've figured it out is totally worth it!

Target DOLLAR SPOT Find! Cars Tin

I am always so excited to run into Target and stop at the dollar spot to see what new treasures they might have waiting for me! Last year in the fall I was delighted to find these absolutely adorable little Cars Tins - seriously, they are super cute and oh so tiny. I picked up a few (ok, like 24) because I knew I would have a use for them. This is what I came up with, a kids Cars Scrapbook for any Cars crazed lover! Simply add pictures and wahlah!

With a little bit of imagination and a lot of sticky strip to hold this puppy in place, I created an accordian style album that open up but doesn't fall out. Here's two photos showing the inside of the album.

I'm excited to announce Target has new adorable little tins for the spring - they have Bambi, Thumper and Dumbo....umhhh, yeah, I did pick a few up! Check back to see my new designs.

Not only do I LOVE the "Happy Heart Day" set, I also love the Ginger Blossom Designer Paper! This was a card I designed for a swap with my stampin sistas recently. To create the large flower, I used the negative space on some SU chipboard and just traced the heart image on ruby red paper. I distressed with my inkpad and wahlah!

This layout focuses on simplicity so as not to lose focus on the main image especially with the amount of color in the photo. "Spy Kids" Birthday Invitation

This birthday invitation was inspired and created for my son after repeatedly watching the movie Spy Kids 3D over and over and over and over again. It's safe to say we're obsessed! I'd like to gladly give credit to, Tresa Black, featured in Paper Crafts Magazine, Birthday Creations, Volume 2. Tresa created a super cute military inviation using this file folder design which I totally had to case. Too cute!

The contents of the folder include a formal "Spy Mission" invitiation, a special Code Name crypto name assigning device and general instructions for the party. In addition, we've included a map with specific instructions on how to get to the secret mission location without being spotted, followed or captured. Our guests are currently

awaiting their secret passwords in order to attend the party.

2008 Resolution Unleashed

I'm so excited I can hardly stand myself right now. (Tee hee hee!) After 6 months of wanting to start my own blog I'm finally doing it. So, without further delay, here I am taking this ginormous plunge and getting myself connected to this awesome online world...and I'm proud to say, this was one of my new years resolutions. (one down) I feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many talented individuals and lucky that a few of you enjoy the creations I have put together. (smile) I hope I can offer unlimited inspiration, ideas and possibly even some new concepts and that you will want to come back and visit often. I'm planning on sharing some of my yummy papers, embellishments, stamps and of course punches that I've been recently using from SU (Stampin' Up!) since the new Spring/Summer catty just came out!
